Sesame Street is making a difference yet again, with their new “See Amazing in All Children” campaign, which they hope will “celebrate the uniqueness of each and every child”. To truly stand behind this message, Sesame Street introduced a new muppet, Julia, who has Autism.
Sesame Street’s “See Amazing in All Children” website includes a variety of resources, including this ‘amazing’ video that shows a family having a playdate with Grover. Two of the three children have an Autism diagnosis.
The children’s mother, Tracey Ruscil, shared, “I am so excited that Sesame Street has created a muppet who has autism. The message they are sending is fantastic – that every kid is amazing. It’s similar to the message that Shared Abilities sends. Shared Abilities is “A community for SHARING information about special needs and celebrating all we are ABLE to accomplish.” Being a part of both the Sesame Street and Shared Abilities communities has really impacted my family and I am grateful for both.”
While the foundation of Sesame Street’s campaign is to build awareness and acceptance for children with Autism, their message resonates for any child with special needs, and we believe this exemplified this in their video, “The Amazing Song”.
Way to go, Sesame Street! Please share this story and the message that we “See Amazing in All Children”!
